Web Sites
Scuba Board - a diver
discussion site that I find very interesting. You have to register
to read the posts but it is FREE.
Underwater Images Photo
Competition - this is an international photo competition run from
Ohio. The prizes include fantastic dive trips and equipment.
Well worth checking out.
DivePhotoGuide - This
web site offers photo tips and tips, news of events world-wide and
information about other underwater photo competitions.
Dive Sites
Portage Quarry - a great dive
site in Ohio. The folks who run/own it have been good
friends for years and they will treat you right. Check out the Hansa HFB 320 Jet that was just placed in the quarry for dive training.
Circleville Twin Quarries - I
have dove this site for as long as I have been in Ohio - first as a
guest of the Pickaway Search and Rescue team and now that they have it
open to the public. John Sanders (one of the owners) feeds
their giant catfish and these guys are "big". Usually they
know when divers are near and either take off or remain hidden.
I surprised one once while on a Rebreather and I am not sure who was
more startled the catfish or me.
Mt. Storm
West Virginia - this is a 11,000 acre lake created as a cooling
source for a coal powered electric plant on the site. Parts
of the site are open to diving but a lot of the information on this web
site is no longer current. For example there is no dive
store there anymore. If you want to dive it please contact
me and I will give you the latest information.
Sites I like to dive which do not have web sites include:
Lakeview Park, Lancaster Ohio -
this is a campground with great facilities for camping and diving.
As with Circleville - I have dove here since I moved to Ohio in 1968.
For details send me an email.
White Star Park - this is a
county park in the city of Gibsonburg. One of the few dive
sites in the state that offers deeper water for training dives.
This link is to a
map of the dive site.
